Far out in the Indian Ocean lies the surreal island of Socotra—a remote world so unique that it often feels like another planet. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the island is famous for its extraordinary biodiversity, with hundreds of plants and animals found nowhere else on Earth. Most iconic among them are the ancient Dragon’s Blood Tree, whose umbrella-shaped canopies dot the rugged landscape like living sculptures. By night, Socotra reveals yet another treasure: some of the clearest, darkest skies in the region. With almost no light pollution, the Milky Way stretches brilliantly from horizon to horizon, making the island a dream destination for nightscape astrophotography. Above the alien silhouettes of dragon trees, the cosmos unfolds in dazzling clarity—reminding us how magical our planet can be when nature remains untouched.
