The GranTeCan or the Gran Telescopio Canarias is a 10.4 m telescope located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory on the island of La Palma, in the Canary Islands, Spain. Taking seven years to build, it is the world’s largest single aperture telescope with observations beginning in 2007. 36 hexagonal mirror segments controlled by an active optics control system helps solve the mystery behind some of the universe's most powerful radio bursts, amongst other assignments.
