The Statue of Liberty Nebula (NGC 3576) is a minor nebula in the Sagittarius arm and constellation Carina. It's 6,000 light years from Sol and a few thousand light years from the Carinae nebula. It’s moniker was given due to its shape resembling the Statue of Liberty inside the clouds of the nebula. This image showcases dense knots of dark interstellar dust, bright stars that have formed in the past few million years, fields of glowing hydrogen gas ionized by these stars, and great loops of gas expelled by dying stars.
